How to Keep Your Dog’s Joints Healthy at Every Age
Share
Our dogs give us everything — unconditional love, endless energy, and daily reasons to smile. But as they age, many dogs develop joint stiffness and mobility issues that can dramatically affect their quality of life.
Here’s how to support your dog’s joint health from puppyhood through their senior years.
Puppies and Young Dogs (0–3 years)
Prevention starts early. Avoid over-exercising growing puppies, especially large breeds. Their bones and joints are still developing, and too much high-impact activity can set the stage for problems later. Provide age-appropriate exercise and a balanced diet.
Adult Dogs (3–7 years)
Keep your dog at a healthy weight — this is the single most impactful thing you can do for their joints. Regular walks, swimming, and play keep muscles strong and joints flexible. Watch for early signs like reluctance to jump or slower starts in the morning.
Senior Dogs (7+ years)
This is when joint support becomes critical. Many senior dogs benefit from joint supplements. Active Again for Dogs uses the same EFAC technology trusted for human joint health, specially dosed for dogs and cats. It’s been used and recommended by NZ veterinary clinics since 2019.
Signs Your Dog May Need Joint Support
Watch for difficulty getting up from rest, reluctance to climb stairs or jump, limping or favouring one leg, less interest in walks or play, and stiffness after exercise. If you notice any of these signs, it’s worth talking to your vet and considering a clinically backed joint supplement.
